Something to say about video games
I had a recent conversation with a friend who feels very strongly about this topic last night. ( ;P )
So... often you'll hear someone making fun of or teasing someone else because they said they like video games. "Oh that's just a stupid waste of time!"... well guess what, you're a stupid waste of time.
Video games are just as much a hobby as anything else, for example (and the one that we thought of) was playing guitar. If someone plays a lot of guitar and has ultimate skill at it, is that person not investing their time into a good hobby? Don't they deserve some respect? Yes you're right, they do deserve respect. It is a great thing to take up and helps with a lot of useful skills, like timing, rythym, etc.
Now, if someone were to tell you that they play a lot of video games why should that be different? It's not necessarily an easy thing to do, it requires though and skill just as much as the next hobby, and in some cases more. It's science that you can actually gain better reaction skills and crap playing video games, and there are definately games out there that will certainly teach you many other useful skills. So stop hating on people who play video games! Unless it's obsessive and it's the only thing you do (that is, if it starts to take presidence over your social life) then gaming is an awesome hobby to have.
I'll gladly admit that I play video games, and there's nothing wrong with it. If any of you haven't, then you suck, but you suck more if you've made fun of anyone for playing video games, be ashamed of yourself and go cry in a box if you have done this.
And I'm not sure if I'm allowed to say who told me to make this post, but thanks for the idea, it's an important thing for everyone to know about and be aware of. :]
So go ahead and tell me your opinions, or if you just wanna say how much gaming rocks then that's cool too.

lol you wrote that perfectly! nice and strongly. nice foundation. i love it. video games is an awesome hobby to have, and i think it needs to stop being CRITICIZED so much... just pick up a freakin controller and YOU.. will [hopefully] feel the magic.. of it..yes.

i'll happily admit that i play video games. And phil you make some good points there, but i'll also happily admit that alot of the time it is a waste of time and that i can think of a whole lot of other things that i could do instead that would be far more productive. I think the biggest problem with them right now is that there not as interactive as other hobbies like. . guitar which you mentioned. but i think the wii is going to change that, lets hope ;)
can't wait to get a freakin wii now thanks to watching all those videos in block!! maybe i'll have to do a post on just how awesome zelda is.

well no i can't say that gaming rocks... but i wont' say its a stupid waste of time either... i can appreciate it... gggooooo donkey kong!... and halo 2 is pretty good the whole one time i played it...
I never grew up with video games. Ever. So, I can't really have an opinion on whether it's a waste of time or not. But not everything's for everyone, I guess. My parents think it's a waste of time, though. The most experience I've ever had has been Nintendo 64 at my cousin's house. I played Super Mario, some type of baseball game, and Duck Hunt, which I was pretty pro at. But, that's as far as I went concerning video games. I know, I suck! : )

we had this old SEGA game or set or wahtever. something to do with sega and it was a pretty crappy game where you couldn't save. anyhow... long story short... i sucked at it, and so ended my video-gaming career.
though my brother has a nintendo ds and whenever i'm bored in car rides... i'll play mario cart on there. that can be fun, but boring afterawhile.
i won't say it's a waste of time though, but definitely not for me.
my parents opinion about the whole thing is...
"WELL LOOK HOW MUCH TIME YOU ALREADY SPEND ON THE TELEVISION AND COMPUTER, WE DON'T NEED ONE MORE THING TO KEEP YOU FROM COMING TO THE DINNER TABLE!"
which is a very valid point in my opinion...
i like video games. but that's 'cause *wink* i'm pretty much able to *wink* master any game*wink* right away *wink*
but i *wink* agree that *wink* they can be bad if *wink* you get *wink* obsessive, and let *wink* it take *wink* over your social life *wink* ;)

just thought i would defend my 'waste of time' comment. Thats just how i feel sometimes, there are plenty of other things that i want more in life right now. So instead of wasting away hours in something that is just for pure enjoyment i feel i should/could probably be working towards something i want a whole lot more in the REAL world.
but thats not to say i don't love video games. i just love some things MORE than video games.

Okay now my turn. Okay video games are a waste of time. THATS THE POINT!~!! same w/ every other hobby. HObbies are made to waste away the time dammit!!! IDEOTE!!! But yes but I like multiplayer games more then oneplayers, its just cool to play w/ people instead of alone. Of course there are some games but still multi is better.

Time well spent is determined by what you give back. Time wasted is time used for stuff that won't contribute. And as I say alot: of course there are exceptions. But mostly yea...
